Transform Your Well-being
What is Spinal Flow?
At A Touch of Spinal Flow, I believe in the body's innate ability to heal itself.
This gentle and painless modality helps to release accumulated stress in the spine, thus promoting overall wellness for the body and the mind.
The Spinal Flow® Technique was founded by Dr Carli Axford, formerly a Chiropractor, who spent over 20 years researching and developing The Spinal Flow® Technique. Concluding that there are 33 access points on the body and when a gentle but firm touch is used on them the access points communicate to the body's central nervous system and the brain, stimulating the life force energy that flows within us to then create a spinal wave.
The spinal wave increases and the life force energy moves through our body - its aim is to eventually rid our body of blockages, which are layers of stress that have built up over our complete lifetime on our spines.
[For information on life force energy please scroll down]
The Spinal Flow® Technique was established with science, the anatomy of the central nervous system, the spine and the brain, the principles of Chiropractic and Osteopathy care as well as energy healing.
Having a treatment with this holistic therapy can assist many problems the body deals with reminding us that blockages are the very first step to ill-health and dis-ease.
Rediscover balance and harmony in your life.

Gateways
The spine has been broken down into 7 gateways to help conclude where blockages are and assess the spine and posture. Each section of the spine correlates to organs of the body.
Blockages
Blockages are built up throughout our lives from the minute we are born! It is where there is unprocessed stress that we put to the back of our mind.
Over time layers of stress build up to create a blockage on the spine, this is the first the step to ill-health.
As humans, we have a tendency to ignore the first signs of our body talking to us, which is often like a whisper, which slowly grows.
Spinal blockages start by STRESS!
Every time we avoid dealing with the stress a layer is then created - we build layers up over time.
Think of stress like a sediment! When it is not addressed, it settles in layers, just like silt at the bottom of a river. Each time we avoid confronting or processing our stress - whether from work, relationships, past trauma or even daily irritations - it doesn't disappear. Instead it gets stored in the spine.
Some examples where stress can be caused
Chemical Emotional Physical
Diet Relationships Falls
Drugs Divorce Accidents
Smoking Financial pressure Whiplash
Vaping Emotional pain Sitting
Caffeine Trauma Heavy bags
Food additives Abuse Sports
Environment Work pressure Gait
(pesticides) Fear
Chemicals in the body can create problems with our organs.
Emotional stress in the body means the body can get stuck in fight/flight mode resulting in fatigue, anxiety, depression digestive and sleep problems .
Physical stress and inflammation in the body can put a strain on other areas and cause tension, fatigue, headaches, or even chronic illness.

What is the life force energy and where does it come from?
A little bit of science here - the life force energy within us is also what you may know as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). With our brain and nervous system being the master controller of our body, the cerebral spinal fluid plays a crucial role protecting and nourishing our brain and spinal cord.
Residing in the brains cavities and enveloping it to protect it, the CSF flows down through the central canal of the spine to the sacrum and coccyx, bathing the whole spine on its route.
In our body there is about 150ml of CSF at any one time. This is replenished continually throughout the day producing between 450 to 600ml each day - basically our nervous system floats in the clear watery CSF!
Taking you right back to when we were an embryo, a set of cells called the neuro plate undergo a process called invagination and neurulation - please view the diagram above for visual understanding.
During this process the neuro plate folds inwards and eventually the sides merge together surrounding some amniotic fluid, (the fluid in which a baby is surrounded by in the womb). The central area steadily transforms the amniotic fluid and it becomes CSF.
When we inhale the CSF is forced to move upwards, bathing the inside and outside of our spines towards our third ventricle in our brain and when we exhale the CSF is forced to move downwards, again bathing the spine, to the sacrum and the coccyx, the lowest part of the spine.
CSF plays a vital role in our development from the very beginning of human life, nurturing our central nervous system, acting as a key transporter of information and energy which is crucial for development, health, nourishment, waste removal and protection to the brain.
Dr Mauro Zappaterra, a Physiatrist, states that 'CSF is more than just a fluid protecting our central nervous system . CSF is a vital component of our being combining physical health and mental well-being.'
In conclusion, The Spinal Flow Technique enhances spinal flow within us, helping to release blockages, calm the nervous system and activate the body's natural healing abilities. This leads to deep healing, pain relief and a restoration of the body's innate intelligence to heal itself. However, the CSF does so much more, it is a very intelligent life force within all of us.
